Bedroom Window

Ghost-crows play on powerlines. Shoulders
smooth sparkle planes, charcoal wings,
undulate on the edge of half-sleep
like a sick child's tummy as he heaves
but still soft.
Platitudes we can't recall.
Breathe in night wind.
It's poison like no other nostalgia.
Gliding backwards,
the breeze doesn’t go clockwise,
and the current runs both ways

Walking Along Euclid in Early Spring

Tonight the moon
hangs in the sky orange
and sliced like cantaloupe.

A woman stands on tiptoe
head tilted up, her tongue tip
on her lip, arms open
to that mysterious fruit in the sky.

She is trying to take a bite
and though she knows it is beyond
her reach she will always salivate
and ache for this juicy moon.

The moonlight draws the gnat
and lace-wing from the grass.
The small gray bats dart
above blooming dogwoods
and feast.

caveat

the celluloid vision of jackie o
reflexively reaching for kennedy's brains;
too fast for even her
aristocratic hands.

did she think
she could put it all back together?

her archival papers
(now cool to the touch)
reveal she knew of his philandering --
her mother counseled her to stay .

so maybe that reflexive jump
on the back of a motorcade
was not as mothers flinch,
watching deathless sons
in football games.
but more as a runner,
anticipating the crisp gun shot.
